We ate at the bay horse inn today for Sunday lunch and can say it was the best restaurant we have found around the Lancaster University area. One thing we have struggled with since vistiing my son since October is decent pub food - The Bay Horse Inn excelled the portions were very generous, staff very friendly all round v. good.

Lancashire food lover
I love the food at the Bay Horse and we are hoping to have a family get together there in the next month or so. My only problem is that, of a party of 10, 3 are vegetarians and despite the Field Mushrooms being very good they have had them about four times now, and there is also no vegetarian starter that I can see on the online menu.
It would be great if there could be another vegetarian starter and main option and then I could persuade my veggie friends to accompany more often (which would be a good thing!) I recently visited Northcote Manor and was startled by the way in which they have embraced vegetarian cuisine, not as a peripheral thing but as something that would even attract a carnivore such as me.
The Herb garden looks very nice and please keep up the good work!

I spent another Birthday lunch at the Bay Horse Inn. The food was outstanding as usual and the staff as polite and courteous as ever. This is my favourite place to eat in all of Lancashire as it’s so consistant. I’ve never had a bad meal here and the food is so fresh. The wine is always heaven and I love the fact that the pub is so beautiful in Summer and so cosy in Winter. We’ll be back soon for another family birthday and I’m counting down the days!

Very Fussy Eaters
Had yet another truly fab meal at The Bay Horse on Friday evening. It was our son’s birthday, who is in his fourth year at Lancaster Uni. We found it purely by chance about three years ago and it’s by far the best restaurant we’ve tried around the University area. We love it not only for the excellent food, but for the warm and friendly welcome. The food speaks for itself and is really special but it’s all done in a very relaxed atmosphere, not at all ’stuffy’. Our son finishes at Lancaster this Summer but we will definitely continue to travel from Bury to The Bay Horse for special occasion meals.
