The Local Area
Worth Knowing
- PERFECT PIT STOP! We are located 5 minutes south of Junction 33 of the M6 – ideal for breaking a journey whilst heading North or South
- The historic market town of Garstang and city of Lancaster are both just a 10 minute drive away: they offer independent shops, galleries, coffee bars and culture as well as providing plenty of places to stay
- Lancaster’s Ashton Memorial is quite a landmark and well worth a visit- dedicated to Lord Aston’s late wife in 1909 it sits in Williamson’s Park and we like to think of it as Lancashires’s mini Taj Mahal
- The Ashton B&B in Lancaster is really rather special and is our recommended place to stay – although we can recommend many more!

LANCASTER CASTLE
Lancaster Castle, often known as John O’ Gaunt’s Castle is one of the most historically fascinating surviving buildings in the country. Its beginnings date back to Roman times when, from its commanding position on the hill overlooking the town of Lancaster and the River Lune, it stood as a bastion against the marauding forces of the ancient Picts and Scots tribes.
